Nimbus was an amazing showdog
but most of all he was my best friend.
At less than 5 years
of age Nimbus had a phenomenal show record:
- All Breed Best In Show & Runner-up
Best In Show Winner - over 1000 entries.
- Specialty Best In Show & Runner-up
Best In Show Winner
- Best In Show Specialty Open Show
- Best In Show & Runner-up Best
In Show Working Dog Club of NSW
- Selected as one of the top 16 winning
dogs in the state (All Breeds) to compete at the 'Sutherland
Shire Contest of Champions' - the first and only Belgian to
do so
- Best Dog & Runner-up at the
Working Dog Club of NSW Match Day
- Best In Group, Runner-up Best In
Group & Australian Bred In Show at the largest dog show
in Australia - 'The Spring Fair'
- Best In Group & Runner-up Best
In Group under local, interstate and international judges (from
U.S.A., Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia & South Africa)
- Best of Breed at Sydney Royal Show
(short listed for the group), Brisbane Royal Show, Hobart Royal
Show (also Intermediate In Show) & Canberra Royal Show
- Winner of the NSW point score for
'Best Groenendael'
- Consistently graded Excellent under
breed specialist judges
- Handled by Ashley to 3rd place in
the senior age division of the NSW state finals in junior showmanship
Note: the majority of Nimbus'
wins were at metropolitan shows with stiff competition
Nimbus' character & superb
type is best described in the critique od world renowned international
judge Mrs Michelle Billings (USA). When awarding
Nimbus Intermediate In Show at the 1999 Hobart Royal Mrs Billings
said:
"The Groenendael was another dog to 'die
for' drop dead gorgeous and presented in magnificent condition.
Excelled in breed type & dead on square plus nice size
- many i see are getting too long. This one stood his ground,
a little bit chary of strangers as mentioned in the standard
but not a bit shy"
(The above critique appeared in the November 99 issue of National Dog)
In August 2002 Nimbus won Reserve Challenge Dog at the NSW Belgian Shepherd
Specialty under Mr Anders Lyrholm (Sweden). The Following week Amanda Huggins
(Daesdaemar Japanese Spitz) took him to Brisbane Royal where he won Best
Of Breed & was said to show his best ever. Three weeks later we lost
him suddenly to cancer.
Nimbus loved to show. Apart
from watching him show it's the small things you miss most....him
sneaking in, in the morning
to wake you up, following you around the backyard, resting
his head on your shoulders on the way to shows & just coming
over to give you cuddles for no apparent reason.
Nimbus is sorely
missed…
